What is the best lubricant for a new impeller? I have heard grease and Vaseline but have also heard they may not be the best. Also on the water pump wear plate gasket is the gasket ok by itself or should the gasket be installed in conjunction with a gasket sealant. Thanks for any info. Steve

I use a film of marine grease on the impeller just to be sure during that first start-up....can't imagine what it can hurt...

Thanks Guys!....Also on the gasket for the water pump base plate should I use a gasket sealing compound and coat the fiber gasket, or is the gasket itself all you need? I have a 1979 55hp Johnson.

When I replaced the water pump on my '95 28hp my dealer told me no sealant was needed. Said he never used sealant when he replaced water pumps.
