I'm helping a friend get this motor running. I just replaced the impeller and when running it, I noticed this thing screwed in. What is this and should I leave it in? What is supposed to be in this opening? This device has a small hole in the side and when the motor's running, the water shoots out of this hole about 20'. I'm concerned that it might be too restrictive??

I appreciate your thoughts on this!

You pic didn't post as this site is screwed up. Is this motor a V-4 ? If it is and the device is on the back of the motor and in the center towards the top, it is the overboard water indicater and normal.

Best bet is to put the photo on an online hosting account like photobucket, then link to it using the photo icon in the advanced posting options.

Wow, I officially hate this 'upgraded' version of this forum....

I finally found it. It's part of a flush kit that stays attached to the motor. The other half is a quick disconnect that stays on the garden hose. Makes sense now.
