I've got a 4.5HP 1980 Johnson. The throttle cable won't turn at the tiller handle. Everything under the engine cover is moving freely but the cable at the handle seems to be froze up. The plastic piece that appears to be connected to the cable on the underside of the tiller is turning with the grip. Should this stay in position? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Bill

Re: Tiller Throttle Cable Frozen

Hi bablittler....

Sounds as if the helix assembly has come apart inside the twist grip. There are two rollers that ride in the slots inside the helix and are attached to the cable end. If these jam, the whole she-bang twists. You can take it to your local Johnny/Rude dealer and get them to fix it or you can get a service manual and attempt it your self. It would be hard to explain "how to" here on the forum. If it was me, I'd get the service manual. Don't hurt to have one any ways. You can get them from your dealer. Hope ya' can get it workin'.
