How come people keep looking at me crazy when I ask for gasket sealant to put my prop back on? The manual clearly states to put OMC gasket sealant around the splines of the prop before putting it back on. I went to 2 places (first one didn't sell parts) and they both people asked me if I meant waterproof grease. I had some slipping issues last time I went out and want to make sure that it wasn't the splines slipping. I think it might be the transmission cable not engaging all the way. The issue quickly went away and it never came back the rest of the day.

The gasket sealant just makes sure the prop doesn't freeze to the prop shaft so you can remove it when you want.

It's considered correct to use a waterproof grease on the splines-per boobie's comment. OMC sells that grease under the "triple guard" label at their dealerships. Their red wheel bearing grease is also waterproof, so it will also work well.
