1985 70 hp evinrude propshaft removal

Hello I was wondering if there is a trick to getting the prop shaft out of a 1985 70 hp lower unit as mine is stuck in there I am down to the pinion gear which wont come out it gets wedged between the shift dog and the case I was told push down on the shift lever and pull on the propshaft and it should come out

There is a lot of work to do to get the propshaft out.----------Bearing carrier / reverse gear / pinion nut / driveshaft / shift rod must all come out.
