I have a 1964 evinrude lightwin 3 HP. The engine runs with the choke fully deployed, however; when it is pushed in any degree the engine will stall....Is this a carberator problem? any help on steps to diagnose and fix would be greatly appreciated. Also having trouble locating a manual for this engine, any thoughts

Re: evinrude lightwin choke problem

bean--I have a 1967 Lightwin that has been in the family since its orginal purchase as a new motor. It runs fabulously, and always starts. One option for your problem may be OLD gas. I hadn't run my motor for awhile, and found I needed to choke it to run. I dumped the old gas and ran fresh gas which fixed the problem. Also, you can go to www.kencook.com for manuals. I got a Johnson Service Manual, and an original owner's manual for a 1956 Johnson 7.5 from them. I found an orginal parts manual on ebay. The Maxrules site is great by the way. Good Luck.
