1977 johnson 140 lower unit removal.

1977 johnson 140 have all bolts out lowered one inch. can't find where the connection is for shaft. help.

Hi, The shift linkage on that motor is located under the bottom carburetor. There is a two piece arm that goes in under the carb and is attached to the linkage. Follow the linkage from where the cable attachs. the two piece arm has a bolt in the center, where it pivots, loosen that bolt and the two arms can be spread apart to release the top of the shift shaft.

Yep, this pretty much applies to all the big motors with Mechanical shift with Hydraulic assist.:cool:

make sure you dont lose the nylon bushing in the shift rod top fitting or it will never shift properly again.
that bushing MUST be in place when reassembled.
