I just inherited a Johnson 9.5 hp Model Number MQ-14D / serial # J2918658. Anyone know what year it is ?
It hasn't been touched in 5-6 years but looks well cared for / greased and clean inside. Any advice before I pull the cord.....Thanks in advance!

Ahoy, Nickman. your engine is a '69.

You should replace the water pump impeller. They don't survive storage well.

Then fire her up!

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Well, My book says a MQ-10 was a 64. I just counted from there and somehow came up with '69. Upon recount, I agree that it is a '68.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Fresh fuel mixed to the proper ratio, and if it were me I'd drop the carb bowl and check for gunk/flakes of crud before starting 'er up. Good luck!
