Hi i am having problems with my motor. I have ran a spark test and getting spark on all cylinders. Then after that i did a cylinder drop test and noticed something. When pulling cylinder 2 the rpm dropped but not very noticeable, and the same thing happened with cylinder 4. But for cylinder 1 and 3 when i pulled the plug you can hear a noticeable change in the rpms. But the whole reasoning behind all of this is because when trying to start it will take a while and when trying to get on plane it just feels like it has more power! And at full throttle everything seems to sound right! I have a 16 ft boat and Im going around 35 mph at WOT with 5000 rpm. Any help is very much appreciated!

Thanks

Re: 1998 Evinrude SPL 115 HP

Havent seen one of these motors but ive worked on other v4s and first thing i do after getting a drop test like that is too keep that drop test going again and then pull the plug out and check if its wet with fuel. Then do that to the other cylinder thats not dropping much in the drop test.
You can then compared that to one of the good cylinders to see how wet they get with fuel with ht lead off.
Its a bit of a crude way of measuring things but you might be able to tell from that that you have a fuel delivery problem to those cylinders, such as blocked/gummed up carb.

You should also do a compression test too.
How did you check spark? spark tester?

It is cylinder 2 and 4 that have loss of power. Could it be the head gasket or some type of gasket?

Head gasket would be the ONLY gasket that can cause loss of compression.--------You might want to look at pistons and rings on #2 or #4 by removing the bypass cover.----6 small screws and possibly a new 99 cent gasket.

Re: 1998 Evinrude SPL 115 HP

Okay so i did my tests. I started again with the cylinder drop test and noticed something. If the plug wire to cylinder 2 and 4 are disconnected then the boat runs the same even with them connected. And after that i tested for spark on them and i have spark in those cylinders. After compression test i read, cylinder 1- 90, cylinder 2- 80, cylinder 3- 100, cylinder 4- 90

How did you test for spark?
Did you do what i wrote in post two to check that fuels going to those cylinders?
Might be headgasket gone or rings
Have you looked into sparkplug holes and looked for any marked wear on the walls or piston head?

yes there is fuel going to the cylinders. there is fuel on the plug. I tested spark with a tester. could it be bad timing from the power pack?

Yes could be powerpack, do you have two on that model you can swap over?

Itl fire but not in time so not properly.
I picked up a light or $15, very handy to use when checking for spark while on the water too

Did you check the spark plugs have fuel on them and its not water? Use a lighter/match an check it burns if not.

If the exhaust gaskets go on some v4s one bank of cylinders can get affected by water spraying on to them
