Lower motor cover removal on 90 Johnson

How do I remove the lower motor cover on a 1991 90 HP johnson? Also, is this the best way to disconnect shift linkage in order to drop lower unit?

To remove that cover you'll have to pull the power head. Now, to disconnect the shift linkage. Look under the lower carb on the port side and you will see a hex head screw with a slot in it. Take that out to disconnect the linkage.

Undo it before you undo all the bolts, you dont want the lower unit hung up by its shift rod
