I am working on my mothers 1984 Johnson 35 ( J35ECRR )
We have had lots of problems with the throttle control unit.
Need to deep six it and go with a tiller. The steering has also been a PITA.
I need some help understanding the parts I will need to find to do this please.
I need to keep the electric start, she is 78 years old!!

Any help would be appreciated. I reside in Eastern Ontario, Canada

You can mount a push button switch for the starter, and another push button to kill it.
Below is a parts breakdown of the tiller handle for your engine.

So All I need is the tiller handle? I would have thought there needed to be more than that.

You will have to modify the the wiring to eliminate the harness, but it isn't all that hard.
Look at the top of the posts at the "Top Secret File", there is a list of salvage yards there, check with some of them for used parts to convert the tiller handle.

Thanks. I am starting to get somewhere

Not sure where the TOP SECRET File is located.

Jasper 60103 your link to part #80 did not work. I understand it is called a mid section?

Do I have to strip the engine to get this part on??

Very compatible. Sorry for the bad link above. You can compare parts at marineengine dot com.

Thanks Jasper

That really helps. I think I may have scored. If not, I am only out $150.00 and have some scrap metal. I found a seized Evinrude 35 from the same year locally. That comparison of parts showed the part number 80 to be the same. So I may have all I need now. Likely not given Murphy's Law!!

Let the fun begin.
