2004 Johnson 6 hp Cooling

Hi.
I'm working on a 6 hp Johnson 4-stroke, 2004.
I've got it running in a barrel but I notice there's no water coming from the tell-tale hole in the lower cover.
The 4-stoke is new to me. Should I expect to see water peeing out the hole as in a 2-stroke?
There is some water being sprayed out the upper exhaust but very little.
And, the engine block does not get that hot, at least not in the barrel.
Maybe all this indicates it's time to change the water pump impeller.

Tell tale should always ****, is it blocked?

Run a wire or weed eater string up it when you have it running.

just a heads up--at least on the two strokes the tell tale will **** even if the engine is not being cooled. its possible for the passages in the powerhead to be clogged and water still come out the pee hole.
