Hello all. New to boating and need some help. Just bought a 1958 Alumacraft with the above motor. It runs fine, but I only have about an inch of throttle movement on the control box. That and it seems it should be able to go faster. Im not trying to race it or anything, its a 14 foot boat and doesnt even plane any ideas? Thanks.

Have you disconnected the cable at the engine and operated the throttle manually to see if it works better?
Maybe you need to open up the control box and check it out.

You could also have some bad cables.

Thanks all. Is the control box complicated? I dont want to open it and have springs and stuff explode all over. Lol.

Go to shop.evinrude.com and look up your motor for a parts break down of the control box. You'll get a good idea of what's involved.

Maybe the shift cable is not adjusted properly.--That may not kick the interlock out far enuff.--------That will limit your top end speed !!
