I have a 18 hp evinrude 1960 model 15032. I am replacing all lower unit seals, gaskets etc. having a hard time removing the skeg. I have a split skeg with all six bolts and one Phillips head removed on the side. Please help!

Re: Skeg removal

With all of the screws removed, including that philips screw... tap it with a hammer such as if the lower unit backed into the hammer. The skeg should just fall off.

If you're having a problem removing the screws (you didn't mention it), use a hand held impact screwdriver, available at Sears, any auto parts store to mention a couple.

Yeah some NEED the hand held impact driver, the type you hit with a hammer.

Thanks, I had all the screws out and the one phillips. I did use an impact driver, that always helps. I read an already posted comments and I hit it with a rubber hammer and it did come lose. Thanks
