Hi everyone hope you can help me
I purchased this 1987 Johnson 110 this winter for a great price have it mounted on the boat it runs great everything works great except the power trim tilt. First before I got the engine the motor sat for about 5 years.
When I first hooked it up I pressed the trim tilt button and there was only the sound of the trim motor I had now movement at all. So I went to the local west marine and got some fluid and filled the fluid up. I hit the button again and the trim cylinders moved very slowly and one at a time and if I put my finger on one it will stop and the other one will move. So I have attempted to bleed the system for about two hours with no head way.
At night if I leave the engine sitting on the tilt there is no bleeding down the system holds the weight of the engine. I see no visible leaks. and the manual release valve is screwed in all the way. When I backed the boat down the ramp just to run the engine and kick it in and out of gear the trim tilt unit will not even hold the engine down when I put it in reverse.
So is there any other method to fill and bleed the system? Could the pump motor be bad, could the impeller be bad for the system is there an impeller? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
