Hey guys. Is the gasket for the exhaust necessary I have looked on a few different sites and can't seem to find it on any of the breakdown images. When I pulled my lower unit the gasket had a 2 inch piece missing. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Your 1973 85hp??? Don't know what gasket you are talking about. Guessing the thick rubber seal where the inner exhaust tube sticks into the lower unit gearcase. If that's it, yes it is necessary.

Model 85ESL73M. For some reason I am unable to upload a pic. I have tried with my phone and my computer. this gasket is in the exhaust port between the lower unit and mid section right behind the water pump housing. It is about 5 inches long and 3 inches wide.
