About a year ago I bought a Grumman john boat that has what i believe is a bit of a Frankenstein creation of a Johnson motor. The tag comes back as a 1980 35 Johnson. It was a wreck. Replaced entire wiring harness. Gutted and cleaned carb. Changed flywheel key. Sparkplugs. And put new brushes in starter. It sat for a few years uncovered outside before I bought it. When I try starting it it cranks and cranks but only backfires. Good compression. Plenty of fuel. Just won't fire. When I changed the flywheel key I also flip flopped spark plug wires but before I try resurrecting this beast I want to make sure I have the flywheel torqued right. I'm newish to marine motors so any advice to keep my head above the water is greatly appreciated!
