I am trying to get this motor started after years of sitting in garage.Low hours on it,well maintained. No controls on it so had to jumper a battery to the starter to crank it.Has fuel to carbs and pulled plugs and grounded them to case and they spark when cranking, but can't get it to fire at all.Seems like it should start.Always ran good when used.Is there something I am missing since it is not on a boat and has no controls what so ever hooked to it?

Check compression.
Put plugs back in and ground the ht wires elsewhere, crank for a couple of seconds, then check plugs a wet with fuel
If thats ok then check timing.
Someone else will ask, so did you check spark jumps a 7/16" gap?

Also you will need to give it a bit of throttle to start
