Look at the parts diagram for say an 83 model.----Those had 2 pumps mounted on the intake manifold.---------Likely are 2 pulse port locations on your block.----------Or the expensive VRO replacement kit.---------Or take your VRO pump apart for inspection / repair and use it as a fuel pump.

If the fuel side of your pump is working it would be more cost effective and much easier to disable the vro side and continue using your pump. Disabled mine 10 or more years ago never had a problem.

It's been disabled for 10 years... I rebuilt it but I don't think it's putting out enough pressure. What should it be? Also if I premix do I need one or two pumps if I fall back to the 83 model

On that 150 you probably need two.

The outlet pressure of the VRO should be no less than 3 PSI.

You'll need two of the conventional (old style 1983 type) pumps, as racerone specified. Your current VRO uses one pulse line nipple-suitable for use on one of the new pumps. You engine has a second port already drilled on the face of the block-it will have a plug put in it-from the factory. Remove that plug and put a nipple in it to match the existing one-to drive the second fuel pump.

Do you just branch the old wiring to both new ones? Also, to both pumps feed the same fuel line?

Re: 1985 Johnson 150 VRO conversion

If you take the two original 1983 fuel pump numbers to a dealer, (393648,393650) they will superceded them to the two current part numbers: 438559 and 393870. The 870 part number is actually a kit, including (a second) one 559 pump and a hose, heat-bent to look like a "J", as seen in the factory 1983 diagram. As you look at the original factory diagram, there are other special hoses with part numbers on them. Such as 324078, and 322762. These are special hoses, heated at the factory to bend in a tight radius. If you use normal bulk hose in these applications, the hose can kink and restrict fuel flow, causing a potential lean condition. Make sure you use original factory-made hoses in these instances. Are you working from the factory exploded parts diagram website: epc.brp.com

Yeh I was using that diagram... I thought the two different number was two different pumps... I read on another thread that Sierra 18-7353 was the replacement for 438559.
