I just bought an 85 and can not figure out how to wire in the tnt. I have the relay junction box and know green is down and blue is up. does the relay box have to be wired directly to the battery ? does any one have a diagram or pic on how theirs is done ? first time boat owner and very mechanically inclined in other motors.

2 wire motor or 3 wire motor ?---------Do you have a junction box with one solenoid ?------Do you have a junction box with 2 little square relays ?

That 78 had a 3-wire motor on the trim system when shipped from the factory. The wiring went through a control box, mounted under the rear splashwell. The down movement of the motor went direct thru the handle switch on the control box. The up movement was wired through a single conventional solenoid in that box. Good you've got the control box, but you may have the wrong motor. The other option is to purchase a later model trim control box-for use with your new motor. That box will have two relays inside and will work with that 2-wire motor. That box is designed to mount inside the cowling on the back of the exhaust cover-your older cover is not drilled to accept that later cover.
