For anyone who has a pre 1987 johnson or evinrude 9.9, i have been working on this old johnson as a bit of a project to learn about outboards. The motor is now running great except for the "slow speed adjust" knob on the side of the motor simply falls right out (including the metal piece that holds the throttle) and so when I come from revved up down to idle i have to be very careful not to turn the handle back to far as it idles it so low it kills the engine. Im not really sure exactley what held it in place before but allowed it
To screw in or out to adjust idle. Any advice on repairs or jerry rig let me know as it is annoying to worry about killing the motor every time i come to idle. Thanks
