1976 9.9 Johnson carb

So I recently cleaned the carb and rebuilt it on my 1976 9.9 Johnson. I tool out the lean/rich screw and have no idea how to adjust it now. Do I turn it all the way in then adjust it from there? Help please

You have the single SS carb. Start at 1.5 turns out and it should start up. Fine tune on the water at 1/8 turn and run a few seconds before moving again. If the needle is bent or worn you may want to replace.

I have the manual for the 1977 and it says start at 1.0 turn out.........
