1:From wich engines does the lower unit fit on my johnson 85esl73m? 2: And is it a big difference in terms of torque from a evinrude 3 cyl 70 hp,to this johnson 85hp v4?
A 3 cylinder lower unit will not fit on a V-4 , just so you know.-----Need a V-4 lower unit from a 73 / 74 / 75 / 76 model.-----------Newer ones than that may shift opposite.-----Look for a lower unit that shifts to forward with a DOWN motion of the shift rod.
the 3 cyl 70hp (1986-88 year) is a engine i can get cheap,is it much weaker then the v4 85hp? ok so if i buy a lower unit at a used dealer,i have to specify the shift-rod-way to get the right one?
I do know that, even before i wrote the first post!! but im asking a question here!!!!! is it a big difference in torque from the 3 cyl 70hp engine to the v4 85hp is what im asking?
The 70 hp engine is a 49 cubic engine. It is maxed out at 70 hp and does not make a lot of holeshot torque. The 85 hp engine is 92 cubic inches, nearly twice it's displacement. The 85 block was also made in 100 hp versions. It will run circles around the 70.
