No, I read that in another thread. There's a couple stickers on there but doesn't tell the degree... Looks like possibly 24 on one sticker but it's kinda scratched up and I definately don't wanna get it wrong

The timing varied on some 85 models. The base 150 may have been different than the timing on a 150S model (the XP/GT) version. My 150S ran a high advance timing. You need to know what model you are working on and start from there.

Re: 1985 Johnson 150 Timing

Actually, a somewhat difficult issue. The 85 factory service manual does not list the WOT timing for the V6 crossflow family. So, it's likely that they intend for the decal on the airbox cover to be the correct setting. On my reman 1985 XP 150S long block, it had a tag wired to it, stating that the timing should be set at 32 degrees. The OMC factory service tech I purchased it from in Waukegan noted the advanced timing label when I loaded it up in my truck. The 86 factory manual shows this timing: 150 32 degrees +- one degree. 150S 30 degrees +- minus one degree. I would be very reluctant to run yours at even 30 with today's fuels, esp not knowing what heads you plan to run on it. I put a set of 235 high compression heads on my 150S, installed a set of 175/200 carbs and set the timing at 28 and burn nothing but 92 octane in it. Seems to like it.
