Hello all welcome to a new boating season. I have a 1976 Johnson outboard Model# 10RL76H. Does this motor have a tell tale? I can't find it if it exists. If not how does it cool? What should be the running temperature when checked with a Pyro-meter? Thanks in advance for the help!!!

No tell tale on this model. The purpose of one is to see if the water pump is working. Temp at the block should be 145F

Water should shoot out of the exhaust relief hole in the back, just under the pan of the motor. It takes about 10 to 15 seconds to see the spray upon start up and it turns to more of a stream when you are running at higher RPMs. In any event, that is your tell about the water pump operation for your model.

This thread may be interesting. We were basically beating it to death talking about the tell tale of your exact motor, over the last couple of days.
