How to find year/model of 5.5 Johnson from serial #

Want to order parts for Johnson 5.5 hp motor, serial #J2298707. Been to many sites , know the 5.5 was only made 1954 to 1964. Nowhere can i find which CD model it is or if any of the parts are interchangeable. Thanks for any help.

The model number is usually on the transom bracket. A picture would also help.

The CD model # or a picture would really give you instant results.--Visit ---the old omc -----site may help too.

Thanks for replies, the id plate is missing from the transom bracket, i got the serial # from the "freeze plug", i know it has to be a CD model, but they made the 5.5 for 10 years. Still cannot find out how to find model #.

You can not determine model years from serial numbers on old OMC/JRude. Everything was handled by model number only. OMC never kept track of serials.

motor is white, pics attached.

Looks like a 1962.

It probably doesn't matter which one you decide to call it since I doubt there was one single part that changed over those 2 years.
