I have been having trouble getting my evinrude fleetwin running for a good amount of time now. In a past thread, I have posted about this and concluded from the help of others that I should purchase new coils and replace them. Once I replaced the coils and tried to run it again, the same problem happened, the motor will not start or maybe after 5-10 pulls it will start, but when I shift into gear it dies. My points, condensers, and copper wire have not been replaced. If my points are not spotless, why will they not work, because mine seem clean but I am not sure if I need knew ones. I have also rebuilt the carb, and replaced the spark plugs. I am kind of stumped on what to do/replace at this point, any suggestions?

Compression test first.---Good spark will jump a gap of 1/4" so look for that too.

Have you checked the shock absorber as well? Beneath the water pump. Should measure 6 3/4" long.
