Color of the hood should be some ballpark inicator

I've never seen the gold hoods

1977 or 78 is the year.-------But that is without looking in any books.

Yup its a 1977.

That gold paint was used in the 76-78 model years. The guys have nailed it by identifying the cowling appearance. You can confirm everything about that engine by looking for the model number on the serial tag(s): riveted onto the transom brackets, or the matching serial/model stamp on a casting plug atop the block.
