Hey guys,

My problem is when I turn the key the engine won't turn, but everything else works.

If I open the ignition and "hot wire it", it will turn and start up right away.

Edit: ignition switch is new.

any idea why the key turn won't turn the engine?

Bypass it with some jumper wires. That will prove it's bad.

Then look for a bad or open wire in the circuit.

I think I figured it out. Might be a bad starter solenoid. Will pick one up and try it

What exactly does that mean?

To me it means you turned the ignition switch to the RUN position then jumped a wire between the B & S terminals at the back of the ignition switch?

I'm betting that's not what you meant though.

Knowing what made it work will help everyone pin point the problem.

We cross posted above...

That's very simple to test before just throwing parts at it.

Take a test light or volt meter and put it on the small terminal of the solenoid with the yellow/red wire going to it. Then turn your key to start and see what you get. If you get 12 volts your solenoid is bad or not grounded properly.

Kinda like that...I ran two wires from the solenoid to a push button switch. One from the positive terminal and another from the center right terminal of the solenoid.

I tested it with a voltmeter and got nothing at the starter wire side. There is power to the ignition switch and there is power entering selonoid.

I'll return the ignition switch and get the solenoid tomorrow morning.

You said that worked.

I tested it with a voltmeter and got nothing at the starter wire side. There is power to the ignition switch and there is power entering selonoid.
But now you say it doesn't work.

The whole battery, solenoid, key switch, neutral lockout & starter motor wiring system is a very simple circuit which can be tested in just a few minutes but to do it over the internet needs exact feedback from you.
Take a look at post #12 again.
