It would be usefull in areas where you would find a lot of silt / sand in the water.---------------The parts are plated with " hard chome / industrial chrome " which is not the same as " bumper chrome " in thickness.-------These pump components are resistant to abrasive wear.
At one time I did some hard chrome plating in a factory environment.-----------Stainless is actually quite soft.---------Hard chrome is all chromium and very hard / tough / wear resuistant.
Let's put things into perspective... Saltwater usage only....~150 hours a year.
Change impeller every two years (~300 hours), housing very four years (~600 hours) Have never changed a pump housing out of necessity.
How many hours a year do you run?
Way back when the heavy duty pumps were bronze and hard chrome plated.------The standard housings back then were aluminum and suffered in salty water.---------------The hard chrome is more wear resistant.------These kits are not needed for most applications .----They do give folks a choice !!
I checked the price and found both the chrome and regular pump repair kit and they had the same price . $37.77
Sounds like Chrome would be a better choice since the price is the same.
