1982 Johnson 150hp back fires and will not start

my 82 johnson 150hp ran last time i used it now when i go to start it it just backfires and will not start not sure what it could be.

Start with a check of the flywheel key.

Did you have the spark plug wires off? Sounds like it's way out of time, maybe wires mixed up.
