1989 johnson outboard motor 70 hp please help

Really need tips n advice on removing the lower unit so i can access my water pump. Ive already unbolted 6 bolts. I managed to make a .25 inch gap but cant disconnect the linkage. What am I missing.

Shift linkage disconnect is up top.-----Find a hitch pin on the lever .---Pull it out.----Push lever to the port side.

Thank u for replying so quick. I did that its disconnect n still can't get it off. I dont think its been off in 25 years.

Pulling, or prying, probably won't help, if you're sure everything is disconnected, Then it needs a shock to dislodge it. Maybe a mild rap side, to side, & front, to back, with a wood 2x4 will jar it loose, while you're prying somehow.

Or try driving some wooden wedges in the gap and then wack it with a rubber mallet.

maybe dumb statement, the right 6, two port two stbd one recessed in front of trim tab one under trimtab.

I did everything suggested so far. Except for the wooden wedges. I'm gonna try that n let u know from there. Thanks

Thanks finally got lower unit off, it was really stuck. The wood wedges worked
