Reed valves on a 115 Johnson cross flow.
is the different stages of reed valves to better enhance performance of low,mid or high rpms

Stock reeds are single stage. There are some aftermarket ones, that are like Reed on Reed, usually Fiberglass. Whether or not they make a difference is debatable. Some people swear they do, others, like me, say the difference is imagined or not noticeable.

Composite reeds will provide somewhat better idling and mid-range pickup. Depending on your engine, it might give you an increase of a few hundred rpm's at WOT. Usually, factory metal reeds perform very well over the life of a normal consumer engine. If you run it a lot at high rpm's, (racing conditions) it does stress the metal reeds long-term. If a metal reed cracks/breaks, it will usually damage the powerhead. Not likely if a composite reed ever breaks.
