I have a 1990 Johnson 120 with a bad lower unit. I just bought a used one to replace it and I've noticed one difference the length of the splined part of the shaft. Both are 20" shafts but the splined part of my original is 1 1/2" in length and the one I purchased to replace it with the splined part is 1". Anyone had any experience with this? Will it work?

Is the spline count the same; if so, then try it and does it have a groove for the o-ring? if so, then be sure to use one. Good luck

Make sure its for a Looper V-4 asnd check gear ratio as the V-6 "big housing" looks thhe same but will make it as dog on low end even if you swap prop to lower pitch.

It is the same spline count. It is from a V4 but from a 1992. I slid it in this afternoon just out of curiousity and it does fit on it. I guess I'm going to try to install it when I get back home.

You're lucky to have found one. Been searching all over the southeast for a LU to fit my 1987 Looper 140. They aren't as common as you may think..especially the large style V4 gearcases.
