Is there any info that outlines using a dial indicator to set points on a 1954 Johnson 10hp. I have the indicator and adapter. I want to make sure both sets of points are spot on. Thanks

There are 2 vertical lines on the magneto plate.----There are 2 timing marks on the flywheel.----Those and an ohmeter can be used to set the timing of the points.

Im assuming you would like to use it to find TDC? You can go at it that way.

I prefer the timing fixture/ohmmeter method described above myself for ensuring both sets break exactly 180 degrees apart.

dissconnect the wire from the coil(s) and condensors from the points, connect your ohm meter to one set of points, and ground the other lead. the points should "break"/ open, when the mark on the fixture is between the two marks on the armature plate. repeat for the other cyl.
