I have a 2011 e tec that I just bought used , took it out for first time and next morning I noticed some gear oil on the ground from around the foot . Any ideas

You will have to do some detective work to determine what kind of oil it is, so you will know where to look for a leak.

If you are sure it was gear oil, then pull the prop and check the propshaft seals for fishing line.

Have you checked to see if you have any warranty left on it ??

The Etec shouldn't have much exhaust residue if any. Does the "oil" smell like gas?
If the gear case is leaking oil you may find the oil milky from water intrusion.
