Hello Everyone! Been a long time reader and decided to join your awesome boating community. You guys have been super helpful to me in all my years of boating. THANK YOU!

I have a quick question. I currently have a 1998 Johnson 150 (J150EXECD) that is a great working engine. I also have a chance to get a 1996 Johnson 150 (J150EXEDB) both ocean runner models for parts. It has a blown cylinder because the guy was using it with 60 psi compression in one of the cylinders (rest were 100psi) and it just broke one of the rings. Anyway, I can get it complete with lower unit and Viper SS prop ( really want this! ) for $375. How many parts are interchangeable? I would like to keep it as my parts motor and sell the parts that don't fit. I know that part numbers are different for these years, but maybe someone know if its just a nomenclature issue.

Thank you for all your help.

I just looked them up and it looks like all the parts are interchangeable . Check shop.eveirude.com and look up the motors.

I think just about all the models from 96-99 might be the same...maybe even up into the 2000's( except stickers and maybe the hood shape.....as long as they are all carbed motors the parts probably interchange....

most of the 93 94 and 95 parts would interchange with your motor as well...except for some electrical connections..... they changed the harnesses in 96..
