I recently purchased a 1990 Nitro with a 1989 Johnson and it has 3 tilt trim switches. One in the front, one on the shift arm and one on the motor. The tilt trim switch on the throttle arm does not work up or down. The other 2 work.

how could I test switch on the throttle arm and does all 3 switches have separate relays. Is the relay for the tilt trim located on the engine?

Please help had to give my Johnson repair manual to the person who bought my Ranger and I'm operating totally in the dark.

Find the plug on the wiring from the switch on the handle.---About 5' from handle.------On the wiring to the motor you can jumper the red to blue and see if it goes up.----Red to green to go down.

At the same point, you can do a continuity test with those wire ends by hitting the up/down and see if it transfers voltage. A common voltmeter with a continuity function should be all you need.
