I recently bought a j115plee ocean runner and had it mounted on my boat.
The engine starts and runs fine when it's hot but hard to start when cold.
Could it be because It did not come with oil injection that it performs this way?
Does it start using a specific routine when it's cold?
(does the key get pushed in before I turn to start or after)

Are you mixing your fuel 50:1 ?? According to the model # it has a vro. Pump the primer bulb up until it's hard. Then when turning the cold motor over to start it, push in on the key and hold it until the motor fires. Be sure to also have the throttle advanced.

Thanks for the reply,Boobie. I am running on a 50 :1 mix. Does this mean the engine has to be readjusted from vro to
a mix configuration. When hot it idles between 500 and 600. Is that acceptable?

No adjusting necessary and your idle speed is okay as long as it doesn't stall.

That motor should also have the Quickstart mode, for cold and warm starting. When cold starting, you should not need to advance the throttle. Simply prime the engine, activate the choke (usually push Key in to choke), and crank motor until she starts. Quickstart should set the cold idle to about 1000RPM, until the motor is warm, and then drop it back to warm idle speed.
