I have a 1997 18' Kenner, powered by a 1996 115hp Johnson. What kind of top speed should I expect, as of now with a full tank of gas (30 gals) and 2 people and gear it tops out at about 35mph and 5200-5400rpm and cruises at 30mph and 4800rpm. Is this where it should be or should I expect more from this motor? Motor runs excellent and is very dependable, maybe needs a higher pitch propeller?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

You may want to post this in the prop section of this forum.

Re: 1996 johnson 115 top speed

I have 1996 fast strike 115 on my ranger 681 fishing boat (17' glass maybe 11 degree deadrise). say 15 gallons of gas, two guys with gear, 3 batteries bow mount TM and a 9.9 sitting next to the 115 I get 42mph consistently with a once in a while 44mph GPS, I am spinning at WOT 5700-5800 rpm with a 17 pitch SS prop.

I know at WOT I am above the WOT range but I like the hole shot, that's more important to me. I haven't dabbled with props yet, I may but that's my numbers.
