1989 25 hp johnson drooping lower unit.

Hello, I have a 1989 25 hp johnson Model number J25elceb. I have drooped the lower unit an inch and cannot figure out how to disconnect the shift linkage. Other posts have said look for a bolt underneath the carb but i do not see anything under the carb. If someone could please help me out that would be great!!!

Thought your motor was similar to mine, but after taking a look at marineengine.com it appears access to disconnect linkage is not in the same place. Sorry.

This looks like a picture of a suzuki motor? mine is a johnson

From looking at what you looked at would you be able to tell me where it is?

Have you taken off the water intake grill?
there should be a nut behind it.
Put a bolt back in so the motors not straining on the shiftshaft in the meantime

Old evinrude. I just assumed yours would be the same. After looking at it on marineengine.com, it looks different from what I am familiar with. Here is a link to the diagram that you probably need. Johnson Midsection Parts for 1989 25hp J25ELCEB Outboard Motor

Take off the water intake screens and that's where you disconnect the linkage. After you unthread everything, look for a small black o-ring. Spread the ends of that and remove it and then pull the lower unit off.

Thanks guys for your help! I found the linkage behind the water intake, iv unthreaded everything and now i can pull it down about 8 inches. There is a nut stoping it from going through the water pump area. Any suggestions?

The plastic keeper is stopping it. Carefully pry it open and remove. There is a slit on the side.
