Presently engine runs with rectifier. I replaced the rectifier recently, the old one was bad, battery wasn't charging over 12.7V at any time. With the new one the voltage jumps up to 17V at higher RPMs. I have changed out the battery to a larger deep cycle group 24 not sealed type. My problem is it runs water out of the battery pretty quickly. My battery isn't in the most convenient of places to keep adding water weekly. Can I change out the rectifier to a voltage regulator without too many changes to other components? Should I even bother? Part scheme shows this engine was available with either component.
