1996 115 evinrude intruder will not throttle up in reverse

Ok guys i need some help...engine shifts in forward and reverse but will not throttle up in reverse,throttles good in forward...looking at this engine for a friend any ideas?

as far as i know nothing has been done...engine was purchased used and installed on boat...throttle cable and shift lever travel completly,cam roller that activates linkage only travels about 1/4"

Is it the old standard side mount, concealed side mount or binnacle mount ??

Take the shift and throttle cables off of the motor and then run the control box through both forward and reverse and check the cable ends for their movement.

did that...cables are moving fully,is there a limit of travel in reverse?

With the shift and throttle cables off of the mtr. If you shift it into reverse (rotate prop when doing this) can you get full throttle then on the mtr ?? Do the same for forward.

sorry boobie but been working alot latley and havent had a chance to look at engine,removed cables as mentioned and engine throttles completly in reverse and forward...kinda sounds like control box so i installed a second box and got the same results

I believe your shift cable at the control is in the outer hole and preventing the throttle from engaging due to geometry change. I moved mine from the inner hole to outer hole to attempt getting more travel on shifter side of things ( to stop grinding) , and what you describe is exactly what happened on mine. Ending up putting it back, and im still fighting the grinding problem.

Get some to move the controls and see if the ignition advances when in reverse. It could be that your whole timing levers are out so that you are not getting enough advance in reverse and you probably wont be getting full throttle in forward
