Air silencer top cover missing 1984 Evinrude 8hp

I'm fixing this up for my brother and it's missing the top half of the air silencer. Apparently the bay ate it some years ago. This link shows the top and bottom halves-

I know that would be a lean problem for my V4's A/F ratio and need to know whether it's similarly important on this motor or if it's ok to run it hard like this until I can find the part at the right price. Amazing how things like spark plugs, fuel pump kits, carb kits, misc knobs and grommets etc. can add up on such a little motor..

I'd just run it. The later mtrs didn't come with an air box from the factory.

Will do. Thanks boobie and nwcove. I got everything finished today and it popped on the first pull and revved right up on the second.
