Hi, my father gave me this boat motor and I have no idea what to do with it! All I know is it's a 1925 evinrude elite 4 cum outboard. Does anyone know anything about it or where I could get an apx value.

Well that is a 1946 Lightfour. The 4383 Lightfour was made from '45 to '49, but based on your serial number she is a '46.

It is a 9.7hp. It takes a Champion D9J plug gapped to 025. Point gap is 020. Fuel mix is 3/4 pint per gallon.

As far as value, not an overly valuable motor. Cool though.

Re: 1925 johnson evinrude 4cyl

I don't think I have run a Lightfour myself, nor do I have one.

I do have a few Zephyrs though, a smaller 4 cylinder 5.4hp. The Zephyr is the smallest, mass produced 4 cylinder in the world.

They have 2 decks of opposed cylinders firing alternately in pairs, like the Lightfour here.

The Lightfour and the Zephyr have a coil, point set and condenser for each opposed set of cylinders.

The idea behind the 4 cylinders on such a small hp motor was to improve idle. I think the jury is still out on that though.

No, but if they had engineered it that way they would have made more on parts when an owner had to do an ignition tune up :)

That would have required 4 coils, 4 points, and 4 condensors!

but when tuned right....they "could" have ran like a swiss watch!! lol
