Help- I have 2 Q's...

I made all new connections for the spark plug wires.
Am I suppose to leave a bit of wire from the center
of the plug wire or cut them flush for the connections to the coils??
The new coils have the little spike looking thing inside them with new boots.

After taking the magneto plate loose and cleaning all the gunk off of everything;
On the shaft there is a silver looking disk that spins (see pic)
How am i suppose to line that disk back up to make the holes line up for the
magneto plate to reattach?

Thanks
Rapunzel

P.S. The boys left me high and dry on this... NO boat rides for them!!!

Just cut the plug wires flush. Pull up some extra wire through the mag plate so you have something to work with. Then, twist the coil onto the wire a few times. That will hold it from popping out. If you have dielectric grease, insert some into the coil cavity before installing the wire.

On the other end of the wire, trim back the insulation, leaving just the copper wires exposed, 1/2" or so. Fan them out, and fold them back onto the insulation. Now center the pin and push it through. Soak in WD40 and push into plug boot. Voila done!

Regarding the disc, roughly turn it where you want it, then lower the mag plate down onto it. Shine a flashlight down the holes, and use a center punch, old nail, anything that will fit through the hole to align the 2 holes then start installing the 4 screws. Be sure to put some new grease down first where you cleaned off the old. Don't need too much here, just a little.

Thanks for the info on the plug wires and mag plate connections.
Wasn't sure if the silver disk notch had to be lined up
with the key on the shaft?
There is nothing on the center ring of the the mag plate to line up though.
Which 2 hole am I suppose to line up??
I'm feeling very blonde today! :(

You will notice the holes are in a rectangle, not a square. It will fit 2 different ways. So just line up the rectangles, lower down the mag plate, then line up the holes with the nail or punch. The 2 holes I was referring to are the one on the mag plate, and the one beneath it on the disc. Once you push the nail/punch down, it will center it for you.

Don't worry, Im blonde too, but still manage to get er done. ;) Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the help.

Pretty sure I got it all back in place.
Just hope i got everything clean enough. It was really bad
greasy and gummy feeling over everything.
It was getting dark so I had to stop for the evening.

Any one know anything about a JET PAC 100 (see pic)

Engine has been sitting for 12 years.
Things done so far:Rebuilt carb, new impeller, lower gear oil, points/condensers, plug wires good (new connections made),
new plugs, and now new coils.
Compression tested before changing everything was 90 @ both cylinders.. Gonna compression test again tomorrow.
I did squirt the oil in the plug holes and spun everything around.
Have I missed anything????

Rapunzel and no boys...LOL

Thanks KFA for the pics/info.
Just discovered I need to move the coil ground wires away from the condensers.

Just pull the coil ground wire in tight to the coil, then tighten the screw. If not it will rub and wear through the insulation. You have the condenser wires pulled down tightly nicely.

Forgot to mention, that Jet Pac is rare. You hardly see them

They are meant to add air to the engine. This would obviously mean you would need to richen your needles to compensate for this. I have never tried one myself. Some say they add hp, some say they do squat and only make it run worse.

I have some literature on it somewhere, Ill look through my hard drive.

I was wondering what that weird little box was. Here's a pic of a nice finished magento that may help.

Make sure that you have the coil laminates flush with the boosses on the mag plate.

Don't ask how I know to do this.

High Trim--- Just curious:

Were you able to locate any info on the JET PAC 100 for me??

No sorry I thought I had some literature on it somewhere.

Have you tried running it yet? If it is lean sneezing from the typical needle settings, just richen then up some.

We installed one of the Jet Pacs back in the day when they were new. The idea behind it is that it acts like a second carburetor (Dual Carburetors make more power, right?). Wrong. It didn't help a thing, and it ran poorly.

I've seen a few over the years. General consensus was the same as F_R's, that they really didn't do much... Neat conversation piece, though...
