Motor sometimes runs hot even though peeing strong so I want to check thermostat.

I have all the bolts out but the cover is stuck on pretty good. My first guess is to pry it off by gently tapping in several screw drivers between the cover and cylinder head assembly until it pops. Is that the standard procedure or am I gonna wreck something?

When I have one really stuck, I use a putty knife that I have ground the end sharp. Gently tap it between the cover and the head at several places around the head.

Thanks, putty knives are in, I'm doing it in increments. It's really stuck so I tap it a hair more every few hours. I may take the blow dryer out and heat it to help soften it.

Thank you.

You could also use a propane torch. Patience is required here.
