Decided to start a new thread with this one. I just got my 1975 Evinrude 25 (25503C) running. It came with 1977 starcraft 14 and trailer that I restored (paid $550). I replaced the points and condenser, Cam and key (badly worn key and key slot on cam), complete gearcase reseal (just checked and no water in oil so that was a success), cleaned carb, new prop and new water pump. Engine ran well as I was trying to get 1/2 gallon of seafoam/fuel mix through to clean out carbon. That was a success as well as the compression numbers went from 90/120 to 118/120. It starts right up now as well.

I did find two items and would like to get advice on.

I took some photos after coming back from run.

1. Looks like two bolts on the exhaust cover are leaking small amounts of water while running - any ideas? I was able to turn them maybe 1/6th of a turn so they were slightly loose.

2. The gear case has oily water seeping from two weep holes - is this normal?

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Exhaust seepage from the weep holes is completely normal.

On the exhaust cover, I would just monitor it after you tightened. If still leaks you may want to replace gasket.
