I am the recent 'new' owner of a 40HP OMC 1999 J40PLEEA electric start outboard on a 16' aluminium runabout. From my research it seems that this engine should have come with a system check gauge. What I have is that under the steering console dash there is the wiring harness for one, no gauge but there is the horn. A couple of questions in the hope that one of the many knowledgeable experts out there might know the answer.
First, when I start the engine the horn does not sound in any way. Is this because there is no system check gauge or should it sound on startup anyway?
Next, does this model of engine have an ECU? I don't see one on any of the wiring diagrams I've looked at for the engine. There is the thing called a 'power pack' what does it do?
Any thoughts, help greatly appreciated!
By the way, I tested the horn with 12v and it works fine.
