I have a (VJ225TXEIC) 225 hp johnson with black particulate trash in the carb float bowls. I am in the process of carb cleaning but am curious about the source of the debree, specifically the fuel pump. It is a VRO2 pump with the oil input port plugged and no oil reservoir. Is there a non-vro fuel pump available for this motor?

Most likely the black parts in the carbs is a fuel line breaking down. Replace all the fuel lines with new lines and flush the fuel system.
You can convert your engine to a non vro pulse pump from an older engine, you will have to make a mount and probably reroute some fuel lines.
If you run a search you will find several posts on the subject.
